Case No. 61-CR-13-356 – State of Minnesota vs Amanda Lea Peltier:
Eric arrived at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood without a pulse, and with bruises and injuries that would soon lead a medical examiner to conclude he had been a victim of abuse, Robert Plesha, a prosecutor with the Minnesota State Attorney General’s office, told a jury of eight men and six women in opening arguments Friday in Pope County District Court in Glenwood. The jurors — two are alternates — will decide if Peltier, 32, is guilty of first-degree murder – while committing child abuse with a past pattern of child abuse and murder in the second degree – without intent while committing a felony. Ramsey County Medical Examiner Michael McGee will tell them that the boy died of blunt force trauma, according to Plesha. Quack McGee Has History Of Lying Under Oath In Michael Hansen's 2006 Murder Trial, Hasn't He?
Hansen was convicted in 2006 for the murder of his four-month-old daughter Avryonna and sentenced to 14-and-a-half years in prison. But a judge overturned the conviction in July after finding that Ramsey County Medical Examiner Michael McGee gave "false or incorrect" testimony at the original trial. In a statement released Friday, the Douglas County Attorney's Office said, "After careful consideration, the State no longer believes that it can prove the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt." Searchers pulled the body of Hancock Police Chief Donald Heikkinen, 50, from Long Lake shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday, said Stevens County Sheriff Randy Willis. … A 911 caller reported the incident about 10:20 p.m., but fog on Sunday night and murky water the next day hampered the search for Heikkinen. Divers found his body just outside their initial search area in perhaps 11 feet of water, the sheriff said. Hancock's only police officer, Heikkinen had been chief for "a number of years," Willis said. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will do an autopsy to determine how Heikkinen died, while Willis' office will investigate the incident. Morris Sun Tribune. Case No. 61-CR-11-623 – State of Minnesota vs Kyle Richard Thompson:

Co. Attorney Nelson Rigged Court Case For The Perjurer Glenwood City Council's Kyle Thompson, Didn't He?

Pope County Attorney Neil Nelson said the city council member won't get any special treatment during his prosecution. “My office will treat him the exact same way we would treat anybody else who is faced with the same facts,” Nelson said. Glenwood City Council Member Charged with Burglary, Assault. Created 12/13/2011, 7:30 pm, KSAX.com.

Thompson was represented by attorney Kevin W. DeVore. Pope County Attorney Neil Nelson was the attorney for the state. Given the evidence that was presented at trial I was surprised by the result,” Nelson said after the trial. “Nonetheless, I always respect the decision of the jury.” Kyle Thompson
acquitted on all counts after three-day jury trial. Pope County Tribune. Monday, October 29, 2012, Page 3A.

Neil focuses his practice in guardianships/conservatorships, real estate, estate planning, business entities, and general civil litigation. As the Pope County Attorney and Assistant Glenwood City Attorney he also prosecutes most of the crimes that occur in Pope County. Neil grew up in Lowry, Minnesota, and graduated from Minnewaska Area High School. Neil went on to graduate cum laude from the University of St. Thomas. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law, Grand Forks, North Dakota in 2007. Heard from Pope County Attorney Neil Nelson, who said there is a possibility Pope County may lose a chambered judge. With the retirement of Judge Jon Stafsholt, seated in Glenwood, the seat may be moved to Rochester. The decision will be made in approximately six months, according to Nelson, and a public hearing will be held before the final decision. Nelson encouraged commissioners to contact local legislators about how important it is to Pope County to keep a chambered judge here. “We have to make out voice heard,” said Nelson. Losing the seat could bring major financial consequences, he added. One example Nelson cited could see departments including Law Enforcement, Human Services and the Attorney's Office incurring more expense for court-related travel time. Without a chambered judge in Pope County, those departments would need to travel to the nearest 8th District judge in Morris.
