The Snohomish School District School Board has narrowed the Superintendent applicants to five semi-finalists. The first round of interviews is set for Wednesday, March 9, and Thursday, March 10. These interviews are open meetings and community members are invited to observe and provide feedback.

I am asking this question innocently, as I am truly mystified by your actively seeking to discredit Bill Gronseth to potential future employers.
If you don't care for this man to be in charge of Duluth Schools, why do you actively seek out opportunities to prevent him from leaving Duluth Schools?
It appears completely contrary to your position. You clearly don't want him here. But by actively pursuing his new possibilities, you help him remain here.
I'm not advocating for him to leave. I honor contracts set in place before I came on board. I'm only trying to understand your position.

Mr Nemmers,

I can assure you I am the furthest thing from a "political creature" and despise politics. Even more so after deciding to participate in a non-partisan election that is clearly anything but non-partisan. If I understood the DFL control in this town better, you would be talking to Renee VanNett. I am a newcomer in this thing, and will go back to non-public life when I'm done.

It's unfortunate that you are holding myself, and two other new board members, accountable in our clearly dysfunctional system when we are working hard to undo damage from prior years to our being seated. I am clearly the most knowledgeable as to what actually goes on in our schools (the trait that people sought me out to be on the board for) out of the seven of us, but as one-seventh, there is no control or power.

If you want the change you keep talking about, then you might consider starting with advocating for how to make the change happen. You appear to say you believe Gronseth is a criminal. You can continue to pursue his alleged criminal activities when he is in other locations. If he truly is a criminal, he will continue these behaviors elsewhere. They won't stop. In the meantime, we can be working to better our schools here quickest, under your guise for wanting better schools, with his relocation.

From your response, I don't believe any opinion in the matter will change. That's okay. We are all individuals with different beliefs, and I can work with that.

The Snohomish School District School Board has narrowed the Superintendent applicants to three finalists. You are invited to attend the final interviews. There will be an open floor for any attendee to ask the candidates questions and provide feedback to the School Board.
The final interviews are Monday, March 21, Wednesday, March 23 and Thursday, March 24. Community forums will be held each of those days from 7-8 p.m. All of these meetings will be held at the district’s Resource and Service Center (1601 Avenue D in Snohomish).

Gronseth has a propensity to give false information whenever it protects his reputation and this was just more of the same. Gronseth has done nothing to mend the schism that The Purge caused, even after the District lost their legal battle and new members have been elected to the Board. Saturday, March 26 – We learned today that Becky Berg of Marysville, WA has withdrawn from consideration for our district’s Superintendent position. The Snohomish School District School Board is moving forward with the two other finalists - Bill Gronseth of Duluth, MN and Kent Kultgen of Helena, MT.

The School Board held a special meeting this morning to continue the superintendent candidate discussion during an executive session. Following the executive session, during an open meeting, it was decided by a vote of 5-0 to select Kent Kultgen for the position of Superintendent of Snohomish School District, effective July 1, 2016. Dr. Kultgen comes to us from Montana, where he has 25 years in education, the last 14 as a superintendent. The Board anticipates approving a three-year contract with Dr. Kultgen at the regular Board meeting on April 13, 2016.
The School Board would like to thank the staff and community members who took time out of their very busy lives to participate in the superintendent search process by completing surveys or attending the interviews and public forums. There will be opportunities during the transition for you to meet our new Superintendent and learn of his passion for students and their success
