Supplemental Narrative By Sean Deringer, 05/08/17 17:45 On 05-08-17 at approx. 0900 hours I was made aware that Anna Olsen had been reported as a runaway the night before. I met with Sgt. Eric Leander who made several calls trying to locate Anna. Sgt. Leander believed that Anna made it to Glenwood, MN and he was having the Glenwood PD do some checking on an address. At approx. 1330 I received a phone call on my cell phone from a male identifying himself as Fred Wittenberg. Wittenberg said that he was the manager of the Glenwood Grand Stay Hotel and Suites. Wittenberg indicated that he was with Anna and that she was fine. I advised Wittenberg that I would contact Anna parents and advise them where she was so they could go pick her up. I also asked that Wittenberg notify the Glenwood PD so they could respond. Wittenberg said that he did not want to involve the police since it "was a small town". I thought that this was suspicious and asked Wittenberg how long Anna had been there. Wittenberg said that she had been there for about 2 hours and that he had gotten her something to eat. ... At approx. 1745 hours I placed another call to Nick to confirm that they made it home. Nick stated that as they were on the way home, Anna told them that Wittenberg had actually picked her up last night and brought her to the hotel and got her a room. They turned around and made a report with the Glenwood PD feeling that this was not appropriate since Wittenberg knew of her runaway status and did not call law enforcement. INCIDENT SUMMARY
Juvenile runaway from 1995 66th St NW in Maple Lake Twp. Anna Maria Olsen left her residence on foot and was
thought to have been picked up. Suspected to be with Hunter Samuel Shelton in Glenwood, MN. Pope County Sheriff's
Office was notified and are attempting to make contact with Hunter. Nothing further at this time.
OFFICER'S OBSERVATIONS / ACTIONS
On 5/7/17 at 2118hrs Mary and Nicholas Olsen reported their daughter, Anna Maria Olsen as a runaway. They stated that she left the their home at 1995 66th St NW in Maple Lake Twp around 2000hrs. She left on foot wearing
peach colored shorts and a pink sweatshirt.
Nicholas and Mary have been receiving information from one of their other daughters that's on the app called snapchat.
They received information that Anna is intending on running away to Chicago with a boy named Hunter Shelton. There is a history of issues with Hunter.
Hunter Shelton lives in Glenwood. I attempted to contact Hunter and his mother without success. I contacted the Pope County Sheriff's Office. They stated that they would check Hunter's address and update Wright County with their
findings.
There is also information that a girl named "Kyra Walker" in Glenwood is involved. At this point I am unable to identify who Kyra is. I advised Pope County of the name and they are looking in to it.
Dispatch entered Anna as a runaway in NCIC. I advised Nicholas and Mary to contact the Sheriff's Office with any new information or concerns and that we would do the same. Nothing further at this time.

Nick then advised that his other daughter had been talking with and Emily Swanson and knew that Emily had been in contact with Anna over some sort of social media. Nick only knew Emily's first and last name and that she was a little older than Anna and went to Buffalo high school.
I did a search for Emily Swanson in the in-house computer and located two. Of the two only one was a little older and had an address that would put her at Buffalo high school. I made phone contact with Jody Swanson who was listed as Emily's mother. After a brief conversation with Jody she stated that she had held Emily from getting on the bus so she could discuss the situation and she was planning on dropping her off at high school shortly. I asked, and Jody agreed, to meet me in the back lot at the high school so I could speak with Emily about what she knew.
At 0828 hours I met with Emily and her mother Jody in the north lot near the new football fields at the Buffalo high school. Emily advised that she didn't have a lot of information but stated that Anna had said she was on her way to Chicago. That she was with somebody named Kiera. Emily had no idea who Kiera was and couldn't remember exactly how Anna had spelled it in the messenger. She thought it was either Kiera or Keira. Emily stated that Anna assured her that she was safe and fine. Emily said that she asked how they were going to get to Chicago and Anna replied that they, "had their ways". Emily said the last message she sent to Anna was one referencing Anna's parents getting a restraining order against her boyfriend and pointing out that she could get in a lot of trouble if she was with him. Emily stated that Anna never responded to that message and could see that she never even read the message.
I then contacted Nick and advised him of the information. Unfortunately none of the information was anything that we didn't already know. Nick was also still concerned that this running away to Chicago may be a diversion and that she still could be in Glenwood with Hunter. Nick wanted me to contact Glenwood PD and push them further on trying to find his daughter. I advised him I would do what I could.
Reading the notes I could see that Glenwood PD had already been advised of the situation. I decided instead to attempt to contact Hunter directly. I had talked to him over the phone in the past and thought that perhaps if anybody had any information where Anna may be it would be Hunter. I called Hunter's number but was unable to get any response. Hunter is of school age and it was at a time of day (0925 hours) that I would expect him to be in school and not able to answer the phone.
It should be noted that Nick did advise me that he had put a public post on Facebook for any information regarding the whereabouts of Anna

On 5/9/2017 I Detective Jeff Fox was on duty assigned to CID/SRO. I was requested to assist with locating this juvenile runaway.
At approximately 1250 hrs. I learned from Capt. Derringer that Olson was on her way home and I was requested to respond to and survey all the area until she arrives. Shortly after arriving at County roads 11 and 37 I took up a position to where I could see Olson's residence. A short time after taking up this position I was advised by Capt. Derringer that Olson was currently located at the Grandstay Hotel and Suites in Glenwood Minnesota and that her father was in route to pick her up.
later on this day I was requested to add to the report information relating to the grand stay Hotel and suites as well as full name and date of birth of the hotel manager Fred Wittenberg. I added this information and had no further involvement in this case.

Anna's father, Nick Olsen, and advised him of her location. Nick said that he would respond with his wife and pick her up.
At approx. 1530 hours I received a phone call from Nick who informed me that they had picked up Anna and she was fine. I told Nick that I would have Anna removed from NCIC.
At approx. 1745 hours I placed another call to Nick to confirm that they made it home. Nick stated that as they were on the way home, Anna told them that Wittenberg had actually picked her up last night and brought her to the hotel and got her a room. They turned around and made a report with the Glenwood PD feeling that this was not appropriate since Wittenberg knew of her runaway status and did not call law enforcement.
After speaking with Nick, I had Wright County Communications remove Anna from NCIC.
Deputy Fox will add Wittenberg and the Grand Stay Hotel and Suites to the report.
